University of Nairobi Library fully identifies with the philosophy of the University as spelt out in its mission and vision. Mombasa Library endeavors to empower the University to retain its leadership role as a World Class University by providing current timely and quality information to enhance teaching, research and consultancy programs of the institution.
Mombasa Library is in the Coastal Region serving campus-based students at Uni Plaza of School of Business, School of Law, Extra-Mural Studies, Faculty of Arts, as well as off-campus students of the School of Continuing and Distance Education of the College of Education and External Studies (CEES.)
We are committed to deliver high quality services to our clientele based on our core values which focus on customer care, professionalism, team work and observation of the rule of law.
HISTORY OF THE LIBRARY
Mombasa Campus Library was set up in January 2009 in room 103 with a sitting capacity of 20 and book collection of slightly over 500 items for School of Business and School of Law. By the end of 2009, the library had a book collection of 1871. The library has since been experiencing steady growth both in size and service delivery.
To date the library is a resource center supporting learning activities for School of Business, School of Law, School of Continuing and Distant Learning and Faculty of Arts. By the year 2013/2014 had developed a book collection of slightly over 10,000 books. The library is able to provide access to over 50,000 electronic books and to over 40,000 peer-reviewed electronic journals in all disciplines to facilitate teaching, learning and research activities in Mombasa Campus. The Library occupies the Ground Floor and Mezzanine Floor of the North Wing of Mombasa Uni Plaza. The Library is fully networked with WI-FI services to enable users to access electronic resources using their personal Internet-enabled gadgets..
The Library has in place in-house user education programme that aims at developing scholars to be self-directed learners who would exploit the wealth of information resources both efficiently and effectively.
